Now That Your Grind is Behind....jh

So, after 10, 20, 30 or so years, you have finally made it. You're retired.

Some find leaving the work world behind quite difficult. I hope I can help you adjust.

Welcome to Island Time, where clocks mean NOTHING you don't want them to anymore!
I started making the adjustment a year ago. I get up when I want. Go to bed when I want. And I work or play as I want.

I was recently out, and I looked down at my watch. When had it stopped working???? Now, it's a mere decoration.

My aim with this site is to try and help people become more relaxed as they adjust to free time.

For years, when my vacation approached, it became a joke among my friends to ask if I were on Island Time yet. YES, I am, and I'm loving every minute of it. I have always been a reader, but since retirement I am amazed by the number of books I had long wished to read are now read. My writing-- something that was mostly sidelined as my teaching career was in swing-- is back in ever-increasing spells.

I hope to impart a bit of positive attitude here as well. After years of successfully reaching and teaching some of the most "difficult" students, I realized my greatest gift: calming angry teenagers.
Calming adults? No problem....

Happy vacation/Retirement. I hope you can stop and smell the coffee with me a bit......jh

So far, I've had two getaways to this marvelous find on the beach. All rooms face the ocean where the roar of the waves will calm you as they lure you to sleep. The rooms aren't overly fancy, but they are clean, and the prices are affordable. The staff is friendly.
You can walk next door to two very good restaurants that feature great menus.
I'm in need of and looking forward to another visit--SOON!

 “Taste Bud Feast!”

I waited too many years thinking I wanted to eat here. Once I tried it, I was hooked. The atmosphere is wonderful, as you feel you are somewhere special. The servers are high caliber. I sampled several dishes, as I was in a group, and was disappointed in none.

Bachelor (cheap) cooking

If it doesn't kill you....

Don't be afraid to experiment. Most of my recipes would be better described as concoctions. That's OK; I'm not fallin' off, as my dad used to say.

A few of mine include:

The mayonnaise jar isn't really that empty....
Swish a little Italian dressing or vinegar around in there to losen up what's hanging onto the jar.
Add a drained can of kernel corn or sweet peas doctored up a bit with some onion and spices.
Shake it up a bit and let it chill....I like it!

Save that pickle juice
Pop some cucumber slices and make some more pickles

I like to save the jalapeno juice and throw in all sorts of stuff that needs a little kick--cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower ...Use your imagination.
